Changing the Face of HIV/AIDS through Music Entertainment

National Latino HIV/AIDS Awareness Day 2011

AIDS ISN’T OVER. IN THE U.S. APPROXIMATELY 56,300 PEOPLE BECOME INFECTED WITH HIV EACH YEAR, AND HISPANICS/LATINOS ACCOUNT FOR 17% OF THEM.

NATIONAL LATINO AIDS AWARENESS DAY (NLAAD) is OCTOBER 15TH.

Latinos bear a disproportionate burden in the HIV epidemic – the CDC estimates that new HIV infections among Latino men are more than three times that of white men, and new infections among Latina women are more than four times that of white women. In addition to using condoms and discussing a partner’s status, the key to reducing HIV transmission rates is getting tested. Because medical treatment that lowers HIV viral load might also reduce risk for transmission to others, early referral to medical care can prevent HIV transmission in communities while reducing a person’s risk for HIV-related illness and death.  Save a Life; It May Be Your Own. Get tested for HIV.
