The HIV/AIDs epidemic has vastly grown in our community and has affected more than 290,000 women in the United States. Women account for 1 in 4 new HIV diagnosis and deaths caused by AIDs. Raising awareness and encouraging people to know their status by getting tested can lower the amount of people infected each year.
National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is March 10th 2012
National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is acknowledged worldwide on March 10th to raise awareness and for people to take action against an issue affecting women and girls within our communities. Women constitute more than half the people living with HIV/AIDs and are the leading cause of death for women ages 15-49 worldwide. Using condoms, getting tested and discussing a partner’s status is the key to reducing the risks of HIV transmission. Medical treatment can help lower HIV viral load and might also reduce risk for transmission to others, early referral to medical care can prevent HIV transmission in communities while reducing a person’s risk for HIV-related illness and death.
