Recap – The TWC pre VMA Concert to Benefit Lifebeat Featuring Robin Thicke and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

On Friday evening, before the VMAs at  the Barclays Center — MTV and Time Warner Cable hosted the 11th annual  VMA concert benefitting Lifebeat. This year’s event featured performances by chart toppers Robin Thicke, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and DJ Mayer Hawthorne.

By 9:45 p.m., the line to get inside Terminal 5 was already down the block, but those who managed to get inside found a dressed up Terminal 5.  DJ Mayer Hawthorne primed the crowd  with a set of soulful selections.  Macklemore & Ryan  brought  high energy to the stage with their set of “Ten Thousand Hours”, “Thrift Shop” (featuring Wanz), “Can’t Hold Us” (featuring Ray Dalton) and “Same Love” (featuring Mary Lambert).

Robin Thicke opened his set with  his #1 chart-topping song “Blurred Lines”. The singer performed many of his previous hits and surprised the audience with his  performance of Al Green’s “Let’s Say Together”.

Robin and Macklemore spoke about Lifebeat with a plea for action against AIDS.
