"LIFEbeat's Hearts & Voices and Tour Outreach programs are like nothing I've ever been involved in. There's nothing like being able to interact with an individual living with HIV or helping to provide the education that can save a life. Working with LIFEbeat has been the most rewarding experience of my life."

National HIV Testing Day - June 27, 2008

Take the Test, Take Control: June 27th is National HIV Testing Day [en español]

In 1995, The National Association of People with AIDS created National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) as a response to the skyrocketing infection rates in the United States. Over 10,000 individuals, community-based organizations (CBOs), elected officials, health departments and other government agencies, businesses and media partners collaborated to promote NHTD events in 2007.1

Just the facts

  • Over 1 million people in the United States are HIV+.
  • The CDC estimates that there are between 180,000-280,000 people who are HIV+ but do not know their status.2
  • The only way you can know your status is to get tested!

What are the benefits of getting tested?

You’ll know your status:

  • If you are HIV-, you’ll learn how to stay that way.
  • If you are HIV+, you’ll learn how to reduce the risk of transmission to your partner and learn how to stay healthy with proper treatment.

Incentives:

  • Many testing facilities offer transportation reimbursement, gift cards and other premiums.

Where can I get tested?

Here’s where LIFEbeat will be at events in New York City and around the country:

En 1995 La Asociación Nacional de Personas con SIDA creó el Día Nacional de la Prueba de VIH en respuesta al aumento en las tasas de infección en los Estados Unidos.  Más de 10,000 personas, las organizaciones de base comunitaria (OBC), funcionarios electos, los departamentos de salud y otros organismos gubernamentales, empresas y medios de comunicación colaboraron para promover eventos del Día de la Prueba de VIH en 2007.1
