For the second year in a row, Electric Daisy Carnival, one of the biggest Electronic Music Festivals in the US is stopping in New York City on its way to Las Vegas. Lifebeat will be there on Friday, May 17th and Saturday, May 18th interacting with festival goers and handing out free condoms and educational materials. Some of the DJ’s who will be there include Afrojack, Calvin Harris, Carl Cox, Morgan Page, Porter Robinson, Steve Angello, Zed’s Dead and more!

If you missed the V.I.P party with Ben Sherman you missed out on a good thing. Guests got down to the beats dropped by nightlife-pedigreed DJ DL and next level renaissance man DJ Josh Madden (what doesn’t he do!?) while enjoying an open bar with libations provided by Svedka. Comedian John Roberts served as a dapper looking host, sporting a fresh Ben Sherman suit.

The highlights of the night were definitely the performances by Graffiti6 and hip-hop dynamo, Talib Kweli. Although relatively new to the music scene, guests were screaming the names of Graffiti6 songs and bopping up and down with delight. As usual Talib Kweli killed it when he hit the stage. Hipsters, blipsters, old school rockers, mods and everyone in between felt the power of Kweli’s lyrical fist.

Lifebeat’s Hearts & Voices is proud to welcome the world renowned singer Sarah Dash, to perform a Hearts & Voices show this week in honor of Valentine’s Day.

Sarah Dash has sung with some of the greatest names in pop, rock and R&B – try The Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper, The Marshall Tucker Band, Laura Nyro, The O’Jays, Wilson Pickett and Bo Diddley among others. She has appeared on shows with hundreds of renowned recording artists – from Keith Richards to Stevie Wonder. She is, of course, a founding member of Patti Labelle & The Bluebelles, morphing into Labelle in the ’70s (which reunited in 2008 for a new album and tour) and has had her own hits with the dance music classics “Sinner Man” and “Low Down Dirty Rhythm.” In more recent times, her 2007 appearance in San Francisco’s ‘Teatro Zinzanni’ theatrical production drew rave reviews.

Dash recently released, I’m Still Here, the first single from her new album, The Seventh Child. The album is slated for a March release.  Two additional singles, Hold On and Something Inside of Me  are expected for a Spring release. Join Sarah Dash at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in New York City’s Theater district as she returns to the stage for her cabaret show, “Sarah Dash: One Woman.”

The Latin Mixx Conference and Awards is the premiere DJ conference catering exclusively to the Latin DJ market. Each year DJs, producers, marketers, promoters, advertisers and others from the United States and Latin countries flock to New York City to attend the conference. Since 2006 the Latin Mixx Conference has provided DJs with an industry education via business, promotions, music and other modules to further their growth.

This year’s conference begins with a showcase on Tuesday, July 12th at 809 Lounge in upper Manhattan featuring turntablists who’ll have a few tricks up their sleeves. Days two and three take place at The TimesCenter in Time Square. The TimesCenter will host panels, an art exhibit, vendor expo, artist showcase, custom sneaker exhibit and more. Business is mixed with pleasure at the annual awards show on Thursday, July 14th with surprise celebrity guests.

Hearts & Voices and 92.3 Now joined with PrideFest to host StageFest. A wide variety of performers — many of which are regular contributors to Hearts & Voices — took the stage and delighted the audience. Even Hearts & Voices manager Erika Banks belted out a few notes. There was something for everyone. Many parade-goers stopped by and stayed for a while. Here are a few of the many acts they saw:

Pridefest NYC 2011 was also an exciting year for Lifebeat’s Local Tour Outreach program. National Outreach and Programs Manager, Kizzy-Kay Graham and dedicated outreach volunteers distributed safer sex goodie bags with One brand condoms, Lifebeat condom packs, NYC condoms, Wet brand lube, FC2s, comics, candy, HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention information and more from our new tent. More than 170 people signed up join Lifebeat’s mailing list and traded HIV/AIDS facts for the opportunity to win an MTV Moon Man or Lifebeat branded water bottles. We’ll be announcing the names of the winners of the Wet Basket of Fun and Wet Holiday Basket at the end of the month.

Latin Alternative Conference presented by Jack Daniel’s
July 6th-9th

It wouldn’t be summertime in New York City without the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC). LAMC — in its 12th year — is the premiere showcase for Latin alternative artists in the United States. LAMC gives artists, promoters, retailers, music industry insiders and related organizations the opportunity to network and learn via events catered to Spanish-language alternative music makers and those who appreciate and support the genre.

By day conference attendees will gather at the Roosevelt Hotel in NYC for panels focused on tech, reaching fans, tours and more. By night they’ll congregate at venues including the Bowery Ballroom, the Prospect Park band shell, The Mercury Lounge and NYC world music staple, S.O.B’s. We’re always excited to see the live showcases and impromptu jam sessions that take place at the hotel.

If you’re in town, drop by the Lifebeat table for “after party” goodies. We’re all about safer sex and rock ‘n’ roll.

On April 9th, Lifebeat struck out on tour with internationally renowned vocalist Ricky Martin. Martin’s Musica + Alma + Sexo World Tour takes the sexy crooner from his native Puerto Rico, to Canada and all the way across the pond to several European countries including Spain, the United Kingdom and Italy. Before Ricky hits Europe he has multiple dates from the East to West coast of the United States.

This is not the first time Ricky Martin has used his talents to benefit Lifebeat. We’ve been on tour with him before; he’s donated autographed and one-of a kind items to Lifebeat’s Bid 2 Beat AIDS auction and most recently, hosted a meet and greet for fans.

We’ve enlisted the help of local AIDS service organizations (ASO) and community-based organizations (CBO) to bring the message of HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention to a venue near you! Martin is a class act; Lifebeat and our ASOs/CBOs are thrilled to be on tour with Ricky.
